Match description

The Japanese quickly set the pace as the match began, taking an 11-8 advantage in a point-earning scramble. The Japanese displayed fine blocking skills in an exchange of volleys and widened their lead to 18-13. At 21-15 in Japan's favor, the Koreans fought back to narrow the gap to 21-18 but the Japanese took the set 25-20. In the second set, the Koreans took over control of the match, grabbing a 4-1 lead. The Japanese turned the tables and gained a 7-6 edge. Both teams fought in a scramble for the lead before the Japanese broke away to take a 15-11 advantage. The Koreans fought back to narrow the gap to 19-18, but the Japanese again moved ahead to take a 23-20 lead and took the set 25-21 on Marcos Sugiyama's spike. After a brief seesaw duel, the Japanese had an advantage of 12-10, and a fierce scramble followed, with the Japanese keeping the two- point edge at 17-15. The Japanese widened their lead to 22-18 but the Koreans fought back to narrow the gap to 22-21. The Japanese took the set 25-23.
